JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas —
U.S. Army South leaders attended a Peruvian Army history brief at the Army South main conference room Aug. 18 to commemorate the 199th anniversary of Ejército del Perú, or Army of Peru.
Lt. Col. David Esteban Diaz Janampa, partner nation liaison officer, U.S. Army South, presented remarks to highlight the Peruvian Army as it was officially established in 1821 when the government of General José de San Martín established the Legión Peruana de la Guardia (Peruvian Guard Legion).
Six years later, in 1827, the U.S. established diplomatic relations with Peru, and the U.S. and Peru’s strategic partnership continues to enhance security and prosperity across the region today to collectively meet complex global challenges.
