Several Sailors were “frocked” to petty officer first class in a ceremony at the Navy Talent Acquisition Group San Antonio at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston June 27.

Frocking is the practice of a commissioned or non-commissioned officer selected for promotion wearing the insignia of the higher grade before the official date of promotion (the “date of rank”). An officer who has been selected for promotion may be authorized to “frock” to the next grade.

Navy Cmdr. Stephanie Simoni, NTAG SA commanding officer, presented the frocking letters to each service member, who were, in turn, pinned by members of their families.

Morgan Thorness, a fire controlman (Aegis); Maria Romo, a fire gas turbine system electrical technician; and Abel Tovar, a surface sonar technician; are all now authorized to assume the title of petty officer first class.

NTAG San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
